How to Build a Treehouse for Kids
You may have abundance of trees around to build a tree house but you may aswell just have one or in some cases none (you can still create your dream treehouse mansion without a tree). But when pondering over how to build a treehouse for kids, you will need some good planning. After all you not only want the tree house to look good and serve the purpose but it should also be perfectly safe for your kids. You will need some expert advice and some good hands at carpentry.
Look for the right tree
First of all you need to pick the ideal tree to make the tree house at. The tree should be tall, straight and a big enough crown at the top so as to let the right amount of sunlight filter through There should be enough limbs to make the perfect crotch to rest the wooden floor. And make sure the tree stands in a clear area so that your kids have the place to themselves.
The material list
Now that you have picked the right tree to make the tree house, the next step would be to collect all the materials you will need. Take out a pen and paper and note down the following materials:
Dust masks, Goggles, Plumb line, Hammer, Combination square, Tape measure, Jigsaw, Handsaw, Shovel, Posthole digger and 2-foot level.
You may also need head screwdriver, Shovel, wheelbarrow and Extension ladder. Some other equipment includes concrete mix, lag screws, nails, Plastic tarp for roof, and wood of course. When picking wood for the tree house, it is best to use pine or Redwood would be ideal which is inexpensive and make sure it is treated so as to keep the bugs away and you wouldn?t want termites or bees laying eggs there.
The process
First you need to measure the rectangular frame of the floor and this is the most difficult part you will find in how to build a treehouse for kids. If you are through with this, you will find the rest of the task like a breeze. Hold the board for the floor at your eye level and look for any unwanted curves. As an important tip, always leave some spaces in between floorboards for rain. You have to make sure that the board is not slanted. Shake the floor several times till it gets its niche and rests sturdy. Once the floor is all set, you got to work on the ladder, steps or any other way of getting into your treehouse.
Once this is done, you need to set up the railing and the roof. You can also set up flower or herb boxes on the railing and add an address to your treehouse, complete with a mail box. Your kids will love it.
